Getting Started

How does the Mudflap app work?

Mudflap is designed to be simple and easy to use. Here’s how it works:

Use the map to find a fuel stop. You can do this while at the stop or from anywhere.
Tap the green button to get a fuel code.
Add a debit or credit card to pay—you’ll only do this once.
Redeem your fuel code at the truck stop. At some stops you’ll need to go inside to show your fuel code and at others you can enter the code at the pump. The app will tell you how to redeem at the truck stop you’ve chosen.
Pump your fuel and get back on the road.

Once you’re done fueling, Mudflap will charge you the discounted Mudflap price and email you an IFTA-friendly receipt (you won’t pay the truck stop directly). You can also get a paper receipt at the fuel stop.

How do I find fuel stops with great discounts?

Open the Find Fuel tab of the Mudflap app—it’s the same screen that loads when you open the app. You can see all of the discounted prices by:

Moving around on the map
Searching for a specific location
Tapping “Route” in the top corner to find truck stops along your route

When can I make my first purchase?

You can make your first purchase in minutes. As long as you’ve added a debit or credit card to pay with, you’re ready to fuel up! Just find a truck stop you’d like to fill up at and get a fuel code.

Why do I need to add a payment method to the Mudflap app?

To get instant discounts with Mudflap, drivers pay for their fuel using the Mudflap app. You don’t pay the truck stop.

Once you pump your gallons, Mudflap will charge your debit or credit card the discounted Mudflap price for your purchase. You never need to show or give your payment information to the fuel stop.

Can I use my fleet card as a payment method in the app?

Besides accepting any debit or credit card, the Mudflap app will accept any fleet card that also has a Mastercard or Visa logo on the front and can be used to buy non-fuel purchases like convenience store items.

Any LLC or Corp can also apply for the Mudflap Fuel Card which allows fleets to issue cards to each of your drivers, take advantage of Mudflap discounts in-network, and get 2¢/gal off any fuel pumped out-of-network.

How secure is the app?

The safety and security of your payment information is a top priority. Mudflap protects your payment information with the same industry-leading security and SSL encryption used by companies like Amazon and Google.

Making a Purchase

Does Mudflap charge any fees?

The Mudflap app is free to download with no hidden fees. We don’t charge fees for debit or ACH payments. If you choose to pay with a credit card, a 1.9% fee will be added to the final transaction amount, net of any credits.

How long are fuel codes valid? Do they expire?

When you get a fuel in the Mudflap app, it’s valid for 24 hours and that discount is guaranteed even if prices go up. If you get to the truck stop and the discount has increased since you got your fuel code, you’ll automatically get the better pricing!

If your plans ever change, you can cancel a code at any time with no fees.

I need fuel receipts for IFTA. Does Mudflap provide a receipt?

Yes, you’ll automatically be emailed a detailed IFTA-friendly receipt with a printable PDF-version attached as well. You can also see your entire receipt history in the Fuel Codes section of the app.

Does Mudflap provide an IFTA report?

Yes, you can request a free IFTA report at any time from the Purchases tab in the Mudflap app. Just tap “Get Report” in the top right corner of that page and we’ll email it to you.

If I’m a fleet owner or dispatcher, can I use the Mudflap app to buy fuel for my drivers?

You can share your payment methods with your drivers so they can use their own Mudflap accounts, or we can link your accounts so they can use your payment methods.

With a linked account, their receipts are shared directly with you so you can easily track transactions. If you’d like to do this, call customer support at (888) 885-3835 and we’ll set it up for you.

If your fleet is registered as an LLC or Corp, you can also apply for the Mudflap Fuel Card to set up each of your drivers with their own cards. You can monitor fuel spend, set spending limits, and even set up PIN codes to keep your cards secure.

Discounts on Our Network

Can I use the Mudflap app outside of the Mudflap network?

The Mudflap app only shows in-network truck stops. The 2,700+ locations in the Mudflap app are our partners that work with us to offer special discounts to you.

LLCs and Corps can apply for the Mudflap Fuel Card to take advantage of all in-network discounts and get 2¢/gal back on any out-of-network fill ups.

How big is the Mudflap network? What if I don’t see a stop nearby?

Mudflap currently partners with over 2,700 truck stops across the country, and is widely available in the lower 48 states. Our network includes popular chains like Speedway, TA Petro, AMBEST, Casey’s, Kwik Trip, Maverik, Road Ranger, and more.

We’re always adding new truck stops to the Mudflap network. If you have favorite stops that you’d like to see added to Mudflap, we’d love to hear about them. Please reach out through chat, email, or call us to share your recommendations.

What types of fuel does Mudflap discount?

Mudflap truck stop partners offer diesel #2, reefer, and sometimes diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) discounts. There are a number of truck stops that offer bio-diesel. During the winter, many of our partners also offer winterized fuel. When you open the app and tap any truck stop on the map, you’ll see the fuel types they offer.

Does Mudflap offer discounts on DEF?

Yes, Mudflap is the first fuel program to also offer discounts on DEF and other fuel types and additives. Not all of the truck stops in our network discount DEF at this time, so be sure to check DEF discounts when you’re viewing a stop’s details in the Mudflap app.

How does Mudflap provide such great fuel discounts?

Mudflap negotiates directly with truck stops on behalf of the 515,000+ carriers we support—like a giant megafleet! Because we help drive more business to these stops, they offer our customers (that’s you) the best cost-plus savings available.

Why do fuel discounts fluctuate in the app?

Diesel prices fluctuate often due to factors like freight costs, local competition, and other economic conditions. While margins for truck stops are tight, we work with our partners to offer the lowest prices we can. We know how important it is to save and we’re committed to offering the best discounts possible.

How does Mudflap make money?

Mudflap gets paid by our truck stop partners based on the traffic we bring them.

Disputing a Charge

Why might I see a charge from Mudflap that I don’t recognize?

Sometimes a hold may appear due to a pre-authorization. When you request a fuel code, we put a hold on your card. This amount is set aside temporarily and may appear as a pending charge. If your purchase exceeds the pre-authorized amount, you may see two charges.
You may see charges you don’t recognize if your drivers are using your shared cards to pay for fuel codes.
When a driver leaves your fleet, be sure to remove them from your payment method to prevent unauthorized charges.

Why does the charge location say Palo Alto?

Mudflap is headquartered in Palo Alto. Charges may display that location on your credit card or bank statement.

I think I was charged the wrong amount. What should I do?

If you believe Mudflap charged more than expected, please reach out to us directly for faster resolution.

Why might a charge appear delayed?

Delays can occur if a fuel code times out or is canceled, or due to delays from the truck stop in reporting your fuel code was redeemed. Contact Mudflap at (888) 885-3835 for faster resolution in these cases.

How long could a dispute with my card company take?

Disputes can take up to 45 days to resolve. During this time, your Mudflap account will be temporarily restricted.

What should I do if I see a charge I don’t recognize?

First, check if the charge matches a recent fuel code request.
If you choose to dispute the charges with your bank, it may delay the time before you can use your account again.
If you still have questions or think the charge is incorrect, contact Mudflap support at (888) 885-3835 for assistance before disputing with your bank.
